Training Series #1 The Start of The Pre-Trip Inspection!
I’m Checking the Air Horns, mounted securely not cracked or damaged, they’re in good working order.
I’m Checking the Tractor Clearance Lights, mounted securely, amber in color none are missing or damaged, they’re in good working order.
I’m Checking the Headlight Housings mounted securely clear in color, not cracked or damaged, they’re in good working order.
I’m Checking the Turn Singles mounted securely, amber in color not cracked or damaged, they’re in good working order.
I’m Checking the Alternator its mounted securely, not cracked or damaged. All wires are mounted securely and not chaffed or cracked. I’m Checking the Belt its not frayed, cracked, less than ½ inch of deflection. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Muffler Stack Pipe not dented or damaged. It’s in good working order. Caution Very Hot!!
I’m Checking the Muffler Shield and Handle are mounted securely. Not dented or damaged. They’re in good working order.
I’m Checking the Muffler behind the shield not cracked, damaged no rust holes, black carbon soot. It’s in good working order.
I’m Checking Lower Exhaust Pipe. Not cracked, damaged no rust holes or black carbon soot. It’s in good working order.
I’m Checking the Push Rod and
Slack Adjuster mounted securely not bent or damaged, no missing parts and all pins are in place. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Slack Adjuster pull it out and there should be less than 1 inch of play.Its in good working order.

"Here in Arkansas they have started a new rule called form A B or C where the examiner can either start you on the front of the truck the 5th wheel or rear of the trailer and make you work forward to the front. I drew the form B where I had to do in cab air break tug test then he started me at the 5th wheel worked my way to the back of the trailer then came up start at the back of the truck and work my way forward we finished the inspection of the passenger side of the engine compartment. He stopped me and said he was satisfied that I knew what I was talking about and impressed how through I was even if I was made to start out of usual order.

Training Series # 2 Drivers Side of the Engine Compartment, Steering Systems.
I’m Checking the Air Compressor its mounted securely, its Gear Driven not cracked or damaged, not leaking. Its in good working order.If Belt driven check the belt for cracks, frays or damage. Less than 1/2 inch of deflection. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Air Lines not split, cracked or chaffed. No audible air leaks. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking The Oil level remove the dip stick and wipe it off reinsert it and check if the level is at a safe operating range.
I’m Checking the Power Steering Reservoir its mounted securely, not cracked or damaged, not leaking, fluid level is correct. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Steering Shaft its mounted securely not cracked or damaged. No weld or repair marks. I’m Checking the U-Joints are not cracked or damaged, loose or worn out. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Upper Steering Arm, mounted securely not cracked or damaged, no weld or repair marks. It’s in good working order.

I’m Checking the Drivers Side Mirror its mounted securely not cracked or damaged. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Drivers Door its mounted securely, opens and closes properly. Hinges are secure not cracked or damaged. The Door Seal is intact not cut or split.
Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Fuel Tank its mounted securely, not cracked or damaged, not leaking from the Tank or the Cap. Cap is in place and tight. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the U Bolts they’re mounted securely not loose, missing or broken. All nuts are in place. They’re in good working order.

I’m Checking the Torsion Spring its mounted securely, not cracked, damaged or shifted. No weld or repair marks. It’s in good working order.

I’m Checking the Air Lines they’re mounted securely to the Tractor and to the Trailer. Not cut, chafed, cracked, no air leaks, not touching the Cat-Walk.
The Glad Hands are not cracked or damaged, not leaking! They’re in good working order.
I’m Checking the Fifth Wheel Skid Plate its mounted securely ,not cracked or damaged no weld or repair marks.
Check for proper lubrication. There’s no Gap between the Fifth Wheel and the Apron. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Release Arm its mounted securely and in the lock position. Not bent or damaged. Check the Safety Latch if equipped. Its in good working order.

I’m Checking the Door mounted securely opens and closes smoothly and latches properly, not damaged. Its in good working order.
I’m Checking the Lift Gate ( if equipped) it’s mounted securely, not Leaking, closes and locks securely. Its in good working order.
